In line with the directives of the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria, the Catholic faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, yesterday the 22nd of May, joined other Christians in Nigeria to protest the endless killings of Christians in Benue State, especially the recent massacre of 2 priests and 17 church members in Benue State by assailants suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
The peaceful protest was deliberately carried out on the same day the 19 victims were laid to rest.
Very Rev. Fr. Fredrick Agu, Dean of Enugu Ezike Deanery said the protest was in line with the directive from the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria. He said catholic faithful were urged to participate in the nationwide peaceful protest in supplication to God and government at all levels for the faithful whose lives where cut short in a gruesome manner during a holy mass in Benue.
In solidarity with Christians all over the country, Catholics of Nsukka diocese came out en masse and peacefully occupied the streets in the 13 deaneries in Nsukka diocese, marching, demonstrating, and praying.
May their souls and those of all the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God rest in Peace. Amen.
